Activities
Hiking
The Land borders California's Hendy Woods State Park, which protects two groves of redwoods. There are five miles of trails in the park itself, which are fairly level and easily accessible.
Yoga
The Land offers plenty of great spots for some yoga or meditation. Katie's determined to steal some time to practice yoga outside under the trees or near the garden. But, there is also a one-room yoga / meditation building on the property if the weather isn't cooperating or if you would prefer to be inside. We are going to try to put together a couple of classes for Saturday morning. TBD.
Swimming
The Land has two opportunities for swimming: there is a pool for those inclined to do laps. It is not full size, but will do for a morning workout or some fun. There is also a river that runs through the property that we should be able to swim in. So, please pack your swimsuit and some sandals!
We hope you like wine, because your entire journey will be dotted with wineries. Taste them, rate them, spread the good word.
There are a few tasting rooms within spitting distance of The Land: Toulouse Vineyard, Navarro Vineyards and Winery, Goldeneye Winery, Balo Vineyards, Foursight Wines, and others. Here's a good article on the Anderson Valley's top 10, if you're interested in reading more.
Of course, there are also some amazing vineyards along the drive from the North and the South. If you're coming up from SF, we would recommend stopping at some of the places in Healdsburg - it's a bit less crowded than Napa and Sonoma, with some great wines.
Wineries
In addition to having a number of wineries within driving distance, there are also some great breweries near The Land. When we first checked out the venue, we visited Anderson Valley Brewing Company - a low key brewery located just 8 miles down the road from The Land. Feel free to swing by before or after the wedding festivities, or even for a quick sip on Saturday (there's a daily tour at 1:30pm!).
If you're driving up from SF, you will also pass Bear Republic Brewing Co. in Healdsburg and Russian River Brewing in Santa Rosa. If you're coming down from the north, Ukiah Brewing Co. and Restaurant is also an option. These are likely a bit too far to add to the Saturday schedule, but would make good stops during your California adventures. (Full disclaimer: while we'd love to try them, we haven't been to these breweries, and are recommending them on the basis of some quality reviews.)
